Japan Display develops 2.3" LCD panel with the world's smallest pixel pitch of 651ppi

Japan Display has developed a prototype 651ppi LCD panel. First announced in June 2012, this display has a resolution of 1280x800 pixels, equivalent to that in a regular notebook PC, but in a screen size of only 2.3 inches. The resolution is basically double that of current high-definition smartphone displays.

"We wondered just how high a resolution we could achieve using our LTPS technology, so we decided to make a world-class display. As a result, this display has the world's highest resolution of 651ppi."

"The resolution of the human eye is said to be about 300ppi. A 5 inch Full HD display has higher resolution, so it may be close to the limit of the human eye. At that level, sensitivity becomes relevant. So for example, objects that appear three-dimensional look extremely clear. We think that, if we give displays even higher resolution, images may look more realistic."

With a pixel pitch of only 39μm, this display is free of artifacts, such as jagged lines and characters, which can be seen in displays which use larger pixels. The small pixel pitch also allows for images to be displayed with a resolution comparable to that of film-based photographs, and internal studies have shown that the high resolution has benefits for the human visual perception system.

From now on, Japan Display will consider specific applications and products, in line with emerging needs.

Compact, high-power hydrogen fuel cell for release in spring 2013

Rohm, together with Aqua Fairy and Kyoto University, has developed a compact, high-output hydrogen fuel cell.

This fuel cell generates electricity by producing hydrogen on the spot. This is achieved through a chemical reaction between calcium hydride sheets and water.

From a sheet with volume of less than 3 cc, this fuel cell can generate 5 Whr of electricity. It can be used for many purposes, from charging a smartphone, to providing back-up power in emergencies.
"This single sheet can fully charge an iPhone once. The sheet weighs about 3 g. If these sheets are laminated and sealed, they last for twenty years. Lithium ion batteries lose their charging ability in 4-5 years at most, so they're not good for emergencies. Because this sheet is a chemical product, it doesn't change as long as the sealing is intact."

For smartphone charging, this product comes in two versions, a cover type and a USB card-case type. They're used by changing the special-purpose cartridges, which weigh 30 g and 23 g respectively.
A version that can serve as a portable generator, delivering 200 W, weighs just 6 kg, with cartridges weighing 750 g. This can be used for outdoor leisure or emergency back-up. Unlike engine generators, it can be used without producing CO2 or harmful exhaust fumes.

Rohm is also developing high-capacity batteries for seismometers using this fuel cell.
"For example, if you want to put a seismometer in the crater of a volcano, naturally, there's no power supply. Ordinarily, you'd need to carry car batteries, weighing 15-20 kg, up there. Our new fuel cell weighs 3-4 kg, so it's really good. And it can keep generating power for six months."

Currently, Rohm is doing market surveys, with the aim of releasing commercial versions in spring 2013.
"In the BtoB business, lots of companies are already working on high-power fuel cells. For mobile use, you have to give plenty of thought to commercial distribution. We're looking for manufacturers who understand the issues, and we're discussing where to sell the fuel and where to sell the fuel cells themselves."

iPod touch gets 4-inch display and touch loop

Alongside the iPhone 5 being unveiled and the iPod nano getting a major redesign, the iPod touch also got a makeover.
The popular personal media player has also made the leap to a 4-inch display just like the iPhone 5, and at the same time has slimmed right down. The new touch is a mere 6.1mm thick and counts as the lightest iPod touch ever developed weighing in at just 88 grams.
Inside you will find an A5 chip, so it isn’t on a par with the performance of the new iPhone, but you’re still getting a proven dual-core processor that pushed the iPhone 4S along at a speedy pace.
You’ll also be glad to hear Apple has decided to include an iSight camera on the back along with LED flash. It’s a cut down version of the iPhone camera, rated at 5MP and capable of recording 720p video. It includes all of the other features of the iPhone iSight including autofocus, backside illumination, a hybrid IR filter, five-element lens, face detection Panorama mode, and FaceTime. Apple also stated that iPhoto now works on the new iPod touch.
Wireless compatibility includes both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands for 802.11n and you can use AirPlay mirroring, too. Siri is also a standard feature now, and Apple has introduced 5 color choices for the casing.
Even though there’s a larger display, faster wireless, and a HD camera on board, the battery life is still excellent. You’ll get 40 hours of music playback or 8 hours of video on a full battery. Recharging gets the battery to 80% in 2 hours.
Overall an impressive update, but Apple had a surprise up its sleeve in the form of a brand new feature. On the back of the iPod touch in the lower left corner is a little circle. This is called the touch loop and can be pushed to allow you to connect a bracelet so as to keep the device safely attached while you play a game, watch a video, or listen to music.
This new 5th generation iPod touch will be available in 32GB and 64GB configurations for $299 and $399 respectively. The 4th generation touches will remain on sales at $199 and $249 for 16GB and 32GB models. You can expect to pick up the new iPod touch in October.

Verizon Galaxy S3 locked bootloader defeated

By all accounts, the Samsung Galaxy S3 is selling like hotcakes on all the big US carriers. The devices are almost identical, except for the carrier logo on the back. Well, Verizon did include one more little surprise — the bootloader on its version of the phone was locked. At least it was until just the other day. Hackers have managed to get around the lockdown.

The bootloader is the first part of the software to load upon boot up. It is used to verify the integrity of the software running on the device, so it needs to be replaced for easy ROM installation. Users have been hammering away on the Galaxy S III since it became available. The folks in XDA and RootzWiki managed to gain root access and flash some custom software despite the locked bootloader, but it was a messy process.

This new hack comes by way of a leaked unsecure bootloader. The exploit has been named CASUAL for Verizon GS3. By running the exploit, the device will no longer check the signature of installed software, meaning you can install whatever software you want. This is a much safer way to get custom ROMs working.

The installation process is mostly automated, which is a far cry from the command line tomfoolery that was required for previous hacks. However, it currently only works on Linux and OS X. As usual, doing this will void the warranty and future OTA updates might break the bootloader. The devs recommend refusing future stock software updates. But with a rooted and unlocked device, you can just move away from the stock software to a more streamlined ROM.

Earn money from file uploading

In first you need to register click here
 http://sharecash.org/index.php?ref=1746024

What is Sharecash?

Sharecash is an online file hosting service (such as
Rapidshare or Megaupload). Yet Sharecash.org has
something that Rapidshare or Megaupload don’t offer: they
pay you every time someone downloads your file! It sounds
truly amazing doesn’t it? But then how does Sharecash
make money? Well there is a tiny catch: every time someone
wants to download your file they must fill in a survey. If that
person doesn’t want to do that, they can buy a premium
account and they get to skip the surveys.

How much do I earn?

Sharecash.org will pay you at least $0.40 for every download
within the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, or
Australia. For international downloads you will receive at
least $0.25 per download.

Some of you may think: WOW! 40 cents every time
someone downloads a file!
And others may think: Hmmm 40 cents? That’s quite little…

For starters 40 cents is the MINIMUM you will get for a
download within the above mentioned countries. Second of
all in comparison to other sites that’s quite amazing! Most
sites similar to Sharecash will pay $10 for 1000 downloads.
Which means:
-$10/1000 = 1 cent per download
-You will not even get your money until the 1000th download
is made.

The above shows you how great Sharecash really is. But
now let’s turn the above stats into a scenario in which you’re
using Sharecash.
-1000 downloads = 1000 x $0.40 = $400!
-You can cashout anything above $10, so you get your
money when you want!

Now the above is how much you earn from downloads.
There are 2 more ways you can make money with
sharecash!

When someone buys a premium account (after using your
link) you will get 30% of the money they spent on it! But that
is not necessarily a good thing (more on why that is later)!

The third way for you to make money is referring people to
sharecash. When you refer someone you will get 10% of
what they earn (that does not mean they will get 90% of the
profits, it means that you as a referrer will get a bonus of
10% of whatever your referred user earns!) So the more you
refer the more money you get!

To conclude, there are 3 ways to make money using
sharecash.org: -Downloads
-Premium Accounts
-Affiliates

Samsung Galaxy S Blaze Q brings full QWERTY Android to T-Mobile August 15

Android OEMs have always had a knack for selecting clunky, awkward names for their phones, and the Samsung Galaxy S Blaze Q looks set to carry on that tradition on T-Mobile’s airwaves. Based on the AccuWeather widget shown in the press image, it looks as though the new QWERTY slider may be arriving in just  a couple of days.

Specs haven’t been officially revealed yet, though there’s some speculation that the Blaze Q may be a QWERTY-fied version of the Epic Touch 4G with upgraded internals. Rather than a 1.2GHz dual-core chip and an 800 x 480 display, for example, the Blaze Q is expected to ship with a 1.5GHz dual-core and a 720p display.

Samsung may use one if its own chips, too, though probably the Exynos 4212 and not the new Exynos 5250 superchip. As for the display, there’s reason to question whether Samsung will be able to push the resolution that high. With all that extra bezel, it’s unlikely that the display will stretch more than four inches. Samsung has yet to use a 720p panel below four and a half inches, so this would either be its first — or the Blaze Q will be sporting a lower-resolution display when it arrives.

Other anticipated features include 16GB of internal storage, 1GB of RAM, a rear-facing camera that can capture full 1080p video, HSPA+ support, and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich — which means you’ll need to wait patiently for an OTA update to Jelly Bean if you decide to pick up the Blaze Q.
