ZENS introduces seamless inductive charger for the Galaxy S3

Of all the accessories you can have for a phone, I think my personal favorite is an inductive charger. While many phones support the feature, very few come with it standard due to the added expense. Even phones that don’t support the technology directly often see it hacked on through one process or another. The Samsung Galaxy S3 is quickly becoming one of the most popular Android devices across the world, so it’s no surprise at all to see a company standing up to offer an inductive charger for the phone.

ZENS, a small European technology firm started in 2011, has announced that they are releasing a replacement battery cover for the Samsung Galaxy S3 that will add the inductive charging functionality to the phone. All you will need to do is replace the battery cover, and any time you want to charge the phone you place it on the mat that is provided by ZENS. Anytime the phone is set on the mat, it will immediately begin charging the phone. ZENS doesn’t mention at what rate the phone will charge, however. The Samsung Galaxy S3 is one of many smartphones recently that rely on a one amp charger in order to charge rapidly. If the provided pad does not output at one amp, your Galaxy S3 will take longer than usual to charge through this solution.

The ZENS charger complies with the Qi wireless power standards for charging a device through induction, which means the pad will support inductive devices from other manufacturers as well. Currently the ZENS wireless charger is only available internationally, and there’s no mention of whether or not the product will be available in the US. The ZENS charger is much easier to setup than the other inductive charger currently being developed by PowerMat, which requires you to line a card up with the pins on the battery and wedge a piece of plastic in between the battery and cover, so hopefully the ZENS system comes to the US soon.
